Hello everyone!!
Can you believe that we are nearly half way through the year? Time
certainly flies when you're having fun learning!
Room 15 have had another busy term and I'm so proud of their efforts.
Our assembly was such a positive experience for all. What a wonderful
culmination of our Science and Geography unit on the Continents and our Earth's
resources. Congratulations to the merit certificate winners, Thanuja and
Mutsawashe. These students were role models to the class in their dedication to
learning the Continents and Oceans song. The values award for perseverance was
received by Christian. Christian always does his best, even when faced with
challenges. The science award went to Tyra as she has an infectious curiosity
about the world, which is essential for any scientist. Well done to all! Thank
you again to all of the parents/caregivers for helping make our assembly so
special and we really do hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
In Health, we have been learning about road and pedestrian safety.
Both Constable Care and the RAC delivered informative and engaging incursions
to the students. Room 15 were presented with a number of scenarios and used
their investigative powers to help people stay safe on, and near the roads.
The Super Scientist presentations were very engaging and I am so
pleased with how the students' speaking and listening skills are developing.
Well done to Thanuja and Anjana for being the Room 15 finalists. They spoke
with knowledge and confidence during the year level presentation last week.
Great effort!
Room 15 has been so very lucky to have had a male and female stick
insect in our classroom this term. Students have watched with fascination as
the appearance of the stick insects changed as they progressed through their
life cycle. Students have been using wonderful adjectives to describe their
observations such as brown, twig-like, camouflage, bright green, yellow,
leaf-like and stripy. We've also had leaf insects and butterflies in the
classroom in the past week! Students saw a Monarch butterfly emerge from its
chrysalis and the class released it yesterday. What an amazing experience! We
are so very grateful to Tyra's parents for generously providing these amazing creatures
this term. There is nothing like learning from witnessing something first hand.
Thank you!
Continuing on the science vein, we have integrated science with
our recent unit on persuasive writing. Students are learning about and creating
a piece of persuasive writing on whether stick insects or butterflies are
better. They have each formed their opinion, brainstormed reasons for their
opinion and are developing the skills to elaborate their ideas into paragraphs.
They are making great progress!
Students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about three dimensional
objects. Investigating the number of faces, edges and vertices is not easy to
wrap your head around unless you can physically handle the actual shapes and
attempt to build the objects themselves. In recent weeks, students have made
leaps and bounds in this area. Well done!
In preparation for the end of term, I wish you all a safe, fun and
relaxing holiday. The students in Room 15 are growing into such lovely young
people and I am grateful to be a part of their learning journey. I'll sign off
with a few of our classroom growth mindset attitudes to show a few of the
social development concepts that Room 15 work on daily.
Success isn't about being the best, it's about being better than
yesterday!
Everything is difficult before it is easy!
Practice makes progress!
Don't worry about what others are doing, it's what YOU do that
matters most.
Change your words, change your mindset.
Congratulations Room 15 on a wonderful Semester One! Thank you for
always having a go and doing your best. Keep up the great work!
